Overview[]

The T-34S is a Soviet prototype medium tank developed in the early 1940s.

Development[]

The T-34S began development in mid 1942 in an attempt to improve the visibility and improve command effectiveness. The design bureau KB-520 in Nizhnij Tagil under the leadership of A. A. Morozov was chosen.

In June 1942, two prototypes were completed. The first model used a turret similar to existing T-34s, while the second used an experimental 3-man turret from the experimental T-43.

Trials were undertaken between 27 October 1942 and 23 November 1942, but the T-34S was ultimately not accepted for service.
