The Steyr AUG A1 (A rmee-U niversal-G ewehr — Universal Army Rifle ) is an Austrian bullpup assault rifle developed in the 1980s from the original AUG .
The AUG A1 entered service in the Austrian military with the name Sturmgewehr 77 (abbreviated StG 77 ). The designation was also used for the original AUG .
