Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft (abbreviated and trading as SIG) was a Swiss company founded in 1864 from the SWF.

History

The Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft (SIG) was formed from the Schweizerische Waggon-Fabrik (SWF) in 1864.

Between 1970 and 1976, SIG acquired Hämmerli & Co. AG, J.P. Sauer & Sohn GmbH, and Blaser Jagdwaffen GmbH, forming SIG Sauer GmbH & Co. KG.

In 1985, SIG created SIGARMS, Inc., an American subsidiary. Weapons import was the original intention, but a larger facility was acquired soon after and in the 1990s the US subsidiary was manufacturing its own firearms.

In 2000, SIG Arms AG was renamed SAN Swiss Arms AG.

In 2000, L&O Holding acquired the weapons related subsidiaries, as well as SIG's firearms division.

In 2001, SIG restructured to form SIG Holding AG.
