The RPK (GRAU Index: 6P2) is a Soviet light machine gun developed in the late 1950s to replace the RPD. Despite it not having the 'M' from the AKM, the RPK is a derivative of the AKM and not the AK. The RPK was developed in parallel with the AKM.
