The LVPT-5 (Landing Vehicle, Tracked, Personnel) is a large American amphibious armored personnel carrier that entered service in the 1950s.
Development[]
At the conclusion of the Korean War, American amphibian tractor units were in need of modernization, as their current supply of various amtracks were near the end of their service life. The U.S. Navy's Bureau of Ships contracted Ingersoll Products Division 01 of the BorgWarner Corporation to develop a new family of vehicles for the role, beating out the LVTP-6 family under development by FMC.
