The HK36 is a German prototype assault rifle developed by Heckler & Koch in the early 1970s. The weapon proved to be ineffective at ranges beyond 300m.

Multiple prototypes were constructed, they had a range of different features between them.

Fixed or retractable stock.
Different fire modes. Some featured semi and full only, while others had 3-rnd burst functions. Other burst modes were also developed, including 2-rnd, 4-rnd, and 5-rnd.
Different ammunition feed systems. Some models used the conventional detachable box magazine, while others used an integral magazine with pre-loaded boxes that could be fitted (possibly similar to the G11).
