Overview[]

The Carrier, Air Defense Missile System, M975 is an American self-propelled missile defence system developed on the Tracked Carrier, XM975 using the Roland (MIM-115) missile defence system.

Development[]

At some point in the 1970s to early 1980s the Roland missile system was trialled by the US Armed Forces, with a domestic model being designated MIM-115. This system was introduced onto the Tracked Carrier, XM975 (a weapons carrier based on the M109 self-propelled howitzer) becoming the Carrier, Air Defense Missile System, XM975. The vehicle was adopted under limited service Carrier, Air Defense Missile System, M975, seeing use in a single unit for approximately 5-10 years.

Derivative Development[]

The MIM-115 combat module was moved to the M812A2 truck chassis, where further tests were undertaken.

In the mid 1980s, the Tracked Carrier, XM975 was used to house the Paladin air defense system for tests, previously using the Tracked Carrier, M993.

In the mid 1980s, a concept for a Robotic Command Center (abbreviated as RCC) was proposed for the Tracked Carrier, XM975. The proposed vehicle would house a set of control station in a command module mounted on the rear of the vehicle. The RCC would be capable of controlling remote-controlled vehicles such as the Robotic Obstacle Breaching Assault Tank.
