Overview[]

The BA-6 is a Soviet armoured car developed in the mid 1930s from the earlier BA-3.

Development[]

The BA-6 began development in 1935 at the Izhorskiy plant as a replacement for the BA-3. The BA-3 was considered too heavy so development for the BA-6 was to modernize and lighten but otherwise keep the same idea.

Throughout the modernization, the BA-6 came nearly 1 ton lighter than its predecessor, while receiving increased protection due to a redesigned armour hull. Bullet-resistant 'GK' tires were fitted which reduces the speed however, somewhat decreasing that which was gained by the decreased weight.

Visibly, the BA-6 looks almost identical to the BA-3. The main identification of the BA-6 is the lack of a rear door.

The vehicle entered production in 1935, and continued production until 1938 when the BA-10 took over.
